A gentle, effective approach to healing.

Here’s a peek into the history of the practice and a brief overview of how it works.

Homeopathy is a complete system of complementary medicine that has been used for over 200 years. It stands apart from naturopathy, herbalism, and other natural health approaches - with its own unique principles and methods.

It began in the late 1700s with Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician who became dissatisfied with the harsh medical treatments of his time (such as bloodletting and mercury purging). In his research of malaria treatment he discovered something remarkable, when healthy people took small doses of cinchona bark, they developed symptoms similar to malaria. From this, he formed the principle of “like cures like.”

In simple terms:

A substance that can cause symptoms in a healthy person can be used - in minute doses - to help someone who is unwell with similar symptoms.

This became the foundation of homeopathy.

The Principles of Homeopathy

  • Law of Similia: “Like cures like”. A substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person can treat similar symptoms in someone unwell.

  • Law of Simplex: One remedy at a time. Remedies are prescribed to be taken on their own to clearly observe their effect.

  • Law of Minimum: Smallest effective dose. Ultra-diluted remedies are used to gently stimulate the body without side effects.

  • Doctrine of Drug Proving: Tested on healthy people. Remedies are understood through provings, observing what symptoms they produce in healthy individuals.

  • Theory of Vital Force: Inner healing intelligence. The body has an energetic force that maintains balance and health; remedies work by supporting it.

  • Theory of Chronic Disease: Deeper root patterns. Chronic illness often stems from underlying inherited or suppressed conditions, which must be addressed to fully heal.

  • Doctrine of Drug Dynamisation: Potentisation increases healing power. Remedies become more powerful through dilution and succussion (vigorous shaking), unlocking their energetic potential.

What Are Homeopathic Remedies?

Remedies are made from natural substances - from plants, minerals, and even animal products - and go through a process of repeated dilution and succussion (potentisation). This process removes toxicity while exposing the remedy’s healing properties.

Because they are so gentle, homeopathic remedies are safe for:

  • Babies and children

  • Pregnant women

  • Those in their senior years

  • People on medications

  • Pets and animals

How Does It Work?

Homeopathy doesn’t mask symptoms - it works with your body.

Remedies act as a spark to stimulate your body’s natural ability to heal. The goal is not to suppress, but to support full resolution by bringing ailments to the surface. Then, the body can truly process and heal- whether the issue is physical, mental, or emotional.

A professional Homeopath takes time to understand the complete picture of your health - including your symptoms, personality, stress, history, and more - to select the remedy that best matches you.

That being said, many homeopathic remedies can also be used at home for common, everyday ailments like bumps, colds, teething, or minor stress. When you learn the basics of how to match the remedy to the symptoms, home prescribing can work wonders with remedies in a safe potency and dosage.

What About the Science?

Homeopathy has fewer large-scale clinical trials than conventional medicine, largely due to limited research funding and lack of pharmaceutical interest. Despite this, growing evidence, clinical case reports, and real-world results continue to support its effectiveness - especially when used by trained professionals.

Globally, homeopathy is the second most widely used system of medicine, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

In Summary

Homeopathy is gentle but powerful. It can be used alongside other treatments, and it’s suitable for all ages and stages of life. With thousands of remedies and a long history of safe use, it offers a personalised and holistic approach to long-lasting health and healing.

Homeopathy deserves to be better known, better understood, and more accessible to all.
