Here’s a very brief introduction to the history of the practice of homeopathy. The practice is over 200 years old, founded by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, who was dissatisfied with the harsh medical treatments of his time, such as mercury purging. Homeopathy was born when Hahnemann discovered, during his research on malaria, that taking cinchona bark in minute doses produced symptoms similar to those of malaria. This led to his principle that "like cures like." A substance causing symptoms in a healthy person can, in small doses, treat similar symptoms in a sick person. By dosing patients with these minute amounts, he successfully treated malaria and helped prevent its spread.
Today, homeopathy has grown into the second most popular medical modality worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The practice once thrived with homeopathic hospitals, but the rise of conventional medicine, influenced by financial interests, led to its decline. Now, thousands of remedies are available, and homeopaths continue to follow the original principles of homeopathy "like cures like," the law of similars, and the principle of minimum dose.
Homeopathic remedies are made from natural substances sourced from plants, minerals, and animal products. These substances are carefully prepared through a process of repeated dilution and potentisation. This process enhances the healing properties of the remedy while minimizing any toxicity, making them safe and gentle for all ages.
Homeopaths do not do the healing. The remedies ignite a spark within, allowing the body to heal itself both physically and mentally. We do not suppress symptoms. Instead, we allow them to be expressed, to run their course, and fully heal.
In terms of research, there are fewer large-scale studies on homeopathy compared to conventional medicine. This is largely due to funding challenges and the strong influence of pharmaceutical companies in medical research. However, many dedicated researchers and practitioners continue to work hard to provide growing evidence for homeopathy's effectiveness.
Homeopathy works because of its gentleness and strength. It is safe to take alongside other medications and therapies if needed, and it is suitable for all ages and stages of life, including animals. Let’s make it more accessible and get it out there.
